Blancanales led the way down the dark hallway. He moved quickly, stepping past the occasional corpse of an Escondito bodyguard and ignoring the spraying sprinklers. The water was two inches deep on the floor and Able Team splashed as they hurried toward the elevator.

Lyons initiated his throat mike. "Stony, we have the package. We're making our exit now."

"Copy," Price replied immediately. "Everyone okay?"

"Pol took a few rounds to the vest, but he's mobile," Lyons acknowledged. "What's the status of forces at the moment? I can hear a whole shitload of sirens outside, even this far up."

"You have a massive police presence, according to Carmen," Price relayed. "However, the Caracas fire service was not able to break Gadgets's lock on the elevators with their master override keys. The elevators are still shut down and under your control so those police teams are going to have to climb fifty stories to try to find you."

"Good to hear," Lyons said.

"Americans!" Kasim sputtered, outraged. "You dare...!"

Casually, Lyons squeezed down tighter on the man's broken fingers. The Iranian spy went up on the balls of his feet in agony as shocks of anguish burst through his body. Nonchalantly, Lyons swung a big hand out and slapped the prisoner across the face, cutting of his words and outcry.

"You shut up," Lyons snapped. "There'll be plenty of time for you to talk later."

The Iranian gasped at the pain, but stopped talking. Schwarz pulled his sat-linked PDA clear as the team approached the service elevator room. Furiously he began typing on the miniaturized keyboard.

Lyons shoved the Iranian into a corner of the room. Blancanales kept the service room's door open an inch, watching the hallway outside with his weapon at the ready.

"What about that helicopter response crew Hunt picked up?" Lyons asked.

"Radio silence on that," Price told him. "Nothing going across the GCIA network. If they're coming for you they have gone operational quiet. The regular police and fire emergency services are screaming up a storm, but that's it for the moment."

"If they're screaming now, just wait," Schwarz said, grinning. He hit Enter on his pad. "Let's go!"

"Able over," Lyons said into his throat mike, and shoved Kasim into the elevator car.

"Stony copy," Price said, and went silent.

"Christ, heads up!" Blancanales said from the door.

"What do you have?" Schwarz demanded, finger on the button of the elevator.

"I got a SWAT team with flashlight-mounted shotguns and assault rifles. They just came out of the stairwell at the other end of the hallway," Blancanales replied into the dark room.

Lyons narrowed his eyes and squinted past Blancanales to look out through the crack in the door. The flashlight beams cut through the sprinkler drizzle and cut swathes through the dark hallway. "Impossible," he said, voice low. "No way a team in full helmet and body armor makes it up fifty-five floors that fast. I don't give a crap how good they are."

"Helicopter from the roof?" Schwarz offered.

"Only way," Blancanales agreed. He eased the service door shut and began backing away.
